Healing of Ring Worm

When our youngest son was in third grade I received a phone call from his school stating that he needed to come home, and would not be allowed back in school until we had given medical attention to a potentially contagious case of ring worm that the school nurse had diagnosed. Before seeing a doctor, my husband and I called a Christian Science practitioner, someone who will professionally pray to heal such cases. He agreed to pray for our son, and my husband and I continued to pray as well. We also complied with the school’s requirement and took him to an urgent care center where a doctor confirmed the diagnosis, giving us a prescription for a topical medicine. He stated that daily application of the medicine would dissolve the ring worm within a few weeks. My husband purchased the topical medicine, however rather than applying it immediately, we prayed that evening with the practitioner. By morning, the effected area had largely cleared. We sent him to school that day with a bandage to cover the effected area which satisfied the nurse. The next day, there was no appearance of ring worm and he was able to attend school without the bandage.

Shocked by the quick healing, the teacher exclaimed to me, “this doesn’t just disappear!” In a way she was correct. Mary Baker Eddy, the founder and discover of Christian Science gives a glimpse of how our Master, Jesus, healed the sick when she states, “Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 477).

When we were praying for our son, we were seeing him as already perfect and spiritual. The prayer simply corrected our view of him and his view of himself. The prayer revealed him as an always perfect child of God and that a contagious ailment such as ring worm was never a part of that perfection. Therefore, the ring worm didn’t “just go away”, it was never there! It was never a true part of his being as stated in The Scientific Statement of Being, also in Science and Health on p. 468, “Therefore, man is not material, he is spiritual.”

I am so grateful for this and many other healings that I have experienced and witnessed through the study and practice of Christian Science. It has been a comfort and a blessing.
