Quick Healing

Father and son reading book.

When our son was a pre-schooler, I received a call at work that he was suffering from the sudden onset of flu like symptoms. As it was the end of the work day, I packed up my desk and headed to a train to return home. While on the train, I thought about the Lord’s Prayer and Mary Baker Eddy’s “spiritual sense of the Lord’s Prayer” (as detailed on pages 16-17 of her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures) breaking down each sentence and applying each part of it to my son. I have used the Lord’s Prayer, with Mrs. Eddy’s scientific interpretation, anytime fear or other distractions have impacted my ability to focus on prayer. As the noise and atmosphere of the train ride were not conducive to quiet prayerful time, this situation definitely called for focusing my thought around this wonderful gift from our Master, Christ Jesus. I also took comfort in knowing my wife was joining me in prayer for our son at home.

The train ride lasted about an hour and the walk home took another 10 to 15 minutes. By the time I arrived home, my son was energetic and happy, his natural state of being. We sat down for dinner, grateful for the wonderful provisions God had given us. Through our prayers, we were able to see that God’s child was in fact always healthy and perfect. What a gift!
