Spiritual Fasting and Worship
Jesus was once asked why the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but his disciples did not. (Mark 2:18)
This Wednesday, March 5 at 7:30 pm, at our Testimony Meeting you will have the opportunity to learn more about how Christian Science puts the concept of fasting on a purely spiritual basis, which can go on continually, in our communion with God.
In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, she says: “We worship spiritually, only as we cease to worship materially. Spiritual devoutness is the soul of Christianity.”
The sadness sometimes felt at this time of year can be overcome through a higher understanding of our relationship to God. Letting go of material conceptions of ourselves is, in a way, fasting or abstaining from things of the flesh. Even things that we feel have become a part of us, such as anxiety, poor health, bad habits, unattractive traits—or any other problem knocking at the door of thought—can be refused.
Join us on Wednesday, March 5, at 7:30 pm (Central), in person in the Roosevelt Room at Brookdale, 60 Nicoll Avenue in Glen Ellyn, or join us by Zoom.
