How We Think of Baptism and Communion

To Christian Scientists baptism and communion have deep spiritual significance. In our church they are not commemorated with the outward rites but through constant individual assessment of one's willingness to wash away self-will and obey God's direction; to be governed by divine Love in all our actions; and to become conscious that God is Spirit, infinite good, and that we are His purely spiritual expressions. This kind of baptism can happen every day.

We've found that "beatitudes", or blessings, come from maintaining the state of thought that Jesus described in Matthew 5 as having childlike receptivity, or being "poor in spirit";  being meek;  being hungry and thirsty for righteousness;  being merciful;  and being pure in heart.
