A high calling

Labor Day celebrates what American workers achieve. The qualities of hard work, ingenuity, dedication and persistence are admired throughout the world. Jesus engaged his followers in a another kind of work which can only enhance the jobs we do everyday. It was the high calling of doing God’s will.

But how do we serve God when the stresses of time, income needs or family cares are weighing heavily on us? Jesus said of his work: “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” (John 5:30)

When all the work we do and every talent we express is in service to our Maker, it takes away stress and brings great joy. Find out more on this topic tonight. Here are the words of hymn number 41, from the Christian Science Hymnal, which will be sung at our Testimony Meeting on August 28th. Join us at 7:30 pm (Central) at Brookdale of Glen Ellyn or by Zoom.

Come, labor on: Claim the high calling that we all may share; to all the world the joyful tidings bear; redeem the time: its hours too swiftly fly, harvest draws nigh.
