Humility that “overcomes the world”

Our church, along with the Christian Science churches in Hinsdale and Elmhurst, hosted an informative talk about healing—that healing which is available to all and found in the Scriptures. The Bible shows, through the life, teaching and experiences of Christ Jesus, how to make spiritual healing practical in your everyday life, as well as under distressing circumstances.

God is Love, the power expressed in Jesus' ministry, and it can overcome injustices the world presents. Mark McCurties relates: “Yet, for all the remarkable healing work that Jesus did, he always gave the credit to God. Based on Jesus’ example, we will define true humility, how it links us to God, and how it connects us with God’s healing laws. There is great need for healing in the world today, and living with more Christ-like humility can help us to meet that demand.”

Our speaker shared healing experiences to help explain why Christian Science healing is both Christian and scientific. The rules and guidance for its practice are found in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy.

McCurties related events in the life of Mary Baker Eddy that show how her understanding grew and how she taught what she felt was the original Christian healing practiced by Jesus. She said she was inspired by this promise of Jesus: “He that believes on me, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go unto my Father” (Bible, John 14:12).

Christ Jesus’ deep humility empowered his healing and can do likewise for each one of us. Learn what true humility is and how it connects us to God and helps us demonstrate our increasing understanding of God in healing works that answer the world’s many needs today.

Mark McCurties has been in the Christian Science healing practice for many years, helping people daily through the Christian Science method of prayer. He travels from his home in Michigan, to give speaking events to the public as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.
