Help heal the drug overdose crisis
When addiction hits a family it is traumatic. Deaths by drug overdose in the U.S. is “a crisis killing more than 100 people a day”, according to David Sheff, who spoke compassionately in the Glenbard Parent Series at a Glen Ellyn virtual Public Library event today.
How can we help? Christian Science offers release from addiction for our precious relations through completely spiritual means. Curiosity is natural. But according to David Sheff, kids need to find different ways to explore that curiosity than by drugs. Another culprit is said to be stress. Sheff pointed out that seven thousand kids said in a survey that it was stress that caused them to use drugs.
Christ Jesus showed that we all need the Spirit and the apostle Paul echoed that idea in this statement: “... be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18) Jesus gave us an example of how to live a satisfying Spirit-oriented life, free from stress.
Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.
