Having a lot o' Soul
In one of the cooking shows on TV this week a judge was thrilled with the winning contestants' results and said they had "cooked with a lot of soul". These chefs had found something deep within – a compassionate love and memory of good family experiences – that lifted their creations to transcend merely well-prepared food.
All inspired performances reveal the possibility of escaping a limited, confined sense of existence in matter. In Christian Science, Soul is defined as God, Spirit, never separated out in limited material bodies. We all reflect the infinite harmony, goodness, beauty and immortality of Soul. This is our real spiritual being.
As the chefs showed, when we forget ourselves, in expressing natural joy and goodness, great things result; the qualities of Soul appear. This is a glimpse of the wholeness of our being that we have as the expression of Soul.
